The November monthly Family Quest Society meeting will be held virtually on November 18 from 11am to 1pm EDT. Our guest speaker will be Mr. Dean Henry. The presentation is entitled “Roots Magic 9 Installation and First Steps".
Dean Henry is a part-time professional genealogist specializing in African American genealogy research, and technology used to enable the completion and capture of genealogical research. He also has recently worked as a part-time cybersecurity consultant, and an adjunct professor of information security.
Dean has used multiple tools and techniques for professional and personal research purposes, including genealogy search services such as Ancestry.Com, FamilySearch.org, WikiTree.com and Fold3.com; DNA testing services such as AncestryDNA.com, 23andme.com and FamilyTreeDNA.com, as well as GEDMatch; genealogy software including Family Tree Maker and Roots Magic; internet people finder sites such as PeekYou and Zabasearch; and social media sites such as Facebook and LinkedIn.
He has presented in a number of venues, including at the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, at several Afro American Historical and Genealogical Society (AAHGS) national conferences, and the Science and Art Club of Germantown. Dean’s current volunteer activities include: Executive Committee member for the African American Genealogy Group of Philadelphia (aagg.org,); Board of Management member for the Philadelphia Continental Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (pccsar.org); and Auditor General for the Society of First African Families of English America (sofafea.org). He is also a member and past Treasurer for the Greater Philadelphia Area Chapter of the Association of Professional Genealogists (gpa-apg.weebly.com), serves on the board of the Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania, and is Vice President of the Family Quest Society chapter of the Afro American Historical & Genealogical Society (https://www.aahgs-phl.org/).
He received a BS in Economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and an MBA from La Salle University where he majored in Accounting. Dean recently celebrated the 50 year anniversary of his induction into Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
